Arrivederci is an Italian greeting expression with a similar meaning in all languages, a temporary farewell between people who are parting with the certainty or rather the hope of seeing each other again. It is impossible not to recall the nostalgic greeting at the passing of the REX liner in Amarcord or the famous final scene of the film 8 ½, in which Federico Fellini makes the ‘catwalk’ of actors pass in front of the camera, perhaps as a metaphor for life to which it is difficult to give a meaning of farewell or goodbye.
In this allegory of farewells, of journeys, of going and coming back, the holiday place becomes a microcosm made up of the same rituals, the same repetitions and the same people who meet again and again.
Every time one goes to the theatre, the curtain opens and the performance begins, usually after three acts the same curtain closes again and the audience, if they have enjoyed it, applauds for the actors on stage. A Family Hotel in the end is also that, a show, where everyone tries to do their part well to deserve that applause, as in a big tour where every day the actors face the stage trying to give the best of themselves. Like every year, at the end of the season, the curtain of the BonSol closes, as in a theatre, everything is tidied up and put in its place, still but ready for the next performance. Unlike in the theatre, where it is almost always the audience who applauds the actors, in this summer season which has just passed we feel the obligation, indeed the duty, to bow and give a big round of applause to you, our guests, our audience, for having provided us with another marvellous season together.
The initial farewell is not only a wish for us but also a recognition of your return, thank you to the new guests for choosing the BonSol, thank you to the ‘veterans’ for renewing their trust in us and thank you to all those who season after season, generation after generation, decide to return to Mallorca, to our little corner of paradise, to continue watching the same show over and over again.
Goodbye, and chapeau to all of you, our guests!
See you next season!
