SAME BEACH, SAME SEA

Stessa spiaggia, stesso mare (Same beach, same sea) is the sixth studio album by the ‘divine’ Mina, released by the Italdisc label in 1963. It is also the title of the famous Italian singer’s 55th single, a simple song with easy, repetitive rhymes that immediately stick in the head: ‘For this year don’t change same beach, same sea, come back again this summer, come back again this summer with me’.

There is also a Spanish version of the song ‘la misma playa’, from the collection ‘Mina sings in Spanish’, but the thing we like best about this song is the idea of a holiday and the homage it pays to every person who decides to return to a place that has probably given them emotions, be it a restaurant, a hotel or a shop. We are bombarded by so many online promotions from travel portals, every year international tour operators launch new destinations, new boutique hotels and luxury resorts open their doors, and deciding to return to a place where one has already been has become something extraordinary, a choice that deserves respect and in some respects even a little vintage, for those quite nostalgic at heart…

Since 1953, when the BonSol hotel opened its doors, each season has seen guests pass through who have become friends, families who have brought other families, little stories of holidays that have been repeated for decades, driven only by word of mouth and a few small travel agencies, and yet people have continued to direct their gaze to Majorca, choosing the BonSol as their holiday destination, year after year.

This beautiful word ‘villeggiatura’, which reminds us of ‘a home away from home’, comes from ‘villeggiare’ and originated in Venice during the Renaissance to define residence at country villas during the summer, recalling the practice of ‘otium’ in the Campanian villas of ancient Rome. In Italy, ‘villeggiatura’ is synonymous with summer periods, where entire families would move to the coasts and spend the sultry months there away from the chaos and heat of the cities.

Even BonSol has been lucky enough to have entire families who for three, four, five weeks a year come to ‘holiday’ at Bonsol, and have done so for years, even for several generations and this does not happen by chance. If it does happen, it is not only thanks to the location, the sea or the good food, but also and above all thanks to those who work there and make sure that everything runs smoothly.

Many thanks to all the guests who continue to return season after season, choosing the BonSol as their ‘holiday resort’ and thanks also to all the staff who welcome them with a smile and a “welcome back!”, to the beauty of Mallorca and to all the people who contribute to ensuring that every year it is always ‘la misma playa y el mismo mar” (Same beach, same sea)
